One year ago today... we found out we were having a baby GIRL!
I never dreamed she could be as sweet as she is today though. =)

Flashback Friday.

I cannot believe this has been two years.

It seems like it was just yesterday that Ian and Aiden were this size. They were so much fun. They're still so much fun. At that age I remember that they really enjoyed taking baths together side by side in my Mom's big sink. She has one of the faucets where the sprayer pulls out of the faucet and they would pull it out and fight over it. Aiden always tried to turn the water on.

I'm so blessed to have had the joy of not only watching my son grow up but also the joy of watching my sweet nephew grow up right next to him. Watching them grow and become best friends has been amazing. They are so different, yet so much the same. I cannot imagine what my life would have been without these two little boys. They made my heart grow in ways I didn't even know possible.

I love you boys. <3 I hope you can be friends forever.

Flashback Friday!

3 years ago today, we found out that we were going to be parents for the very first time.

I said it was the flu, the doctor told me it was a baby.

We've loved you since the moment we knew you were on your way baby.

Look how far you've come!

Flashback Friday.

Ian's first bath at home.

It was a really warm day, considering it was mid August. I remember how nervous I was about giving him his first bath. How would I keep his cord dry. How would I rinse his face off? Funny how everything worries new Moms.

We decided that he would be more comfortable if we bathed him on the back porch. The house was cool because of the air conditioner. We took his bathing seat outside and washed him. He made the saddest little crying face. He had the most heartbreaking cry. Actually, his face still kind of looks like that when he cries. Except it's bigger, and more noise comes out of it.

After his bath I put him in a diaper and swaddled him in a light green cotton blanket and cuddled him. =)

And that was Ian's first bath.

My husband. Most likely taken a couple of months before I was born. I think he looks quite a bit like Ian here.

Either way, he's pretty stinkin' cute. =)

Flashback Friday.

This is a picture of Ian taken this time last year.

It's amazing to think about all of the things that have changed in the past year, and still, all of the things that have stayed the same. After all, Ian still sports those beautiful big blue eyes. They keep him out of trouble...sometimes.

The binky is gone. Kicked it soon after his first birthday. His hair is shorter, and grows in more evenly as it tends to do as kids get older. He certainly talks a lot more now. Oh yeah, and he can walk. Minor details.

We were living with my parents when this photo was taken. Toby was still in an entry level position in his job. We certainly weren't considering having any more children. Now we live in a great place that we love, Toby has jumped up several positions in the company, and we are expecting to meet our daughter any time now.

I must say that I have learned a lot in this past year. I feel more comfortable in my own skin. I feel like I know so much more about the person I am, and the person that I'm striving to be. I don't feel like a new mom anymore. Meaning I don't feel as much insecurity in my decisions. I enjoy being Ian's Mom, and I do a good job at it. I don't worry that I'm making the wrong decisions.

I'm trying to be a better person. I'm letting things go that my heart has held on to. For the most part, I'm trying to learn how to not be angry about the past anymore. And I'm trying to care less about what others do. I've always cared too much. It's not that I wanted to judge people, it's just that I had a hard time watching people making decisions that I knew were wrong, or making decisions to do one thing, when there was so obviously a better option right in front of them. But, I've come to see that I too have done the same thing. People have to make mistakes. It's life. Let them do it. You don't have to agree. ::shrugs:: Maybe part of that has come from becoming more comfortable with myself.

However, I've also learned that you've got to be happy with who you are, and in order to do that, you've got to put your family first. Since Toby and I have started prioritizing spending time as a family (and worrying less about making sure everyone else feels satisfied) we have become so much happier, and worry-free. Though I must say I wish that we had the time to spend with more people. But with Toby working nights, we hardly get to see each other during the week. We spend an hour or so laying in bed together watching television after he comes home from work. We sleep in, since we stay up late. Then we spend the late morning hours and early afternoon getting showered, dressed, and fed. Toby answers emails and catches up on work, and then he's gone until 11:30+ again. It's rough, but it works for now. Right now we're focusing on trying to find just one night to go out on a "date" before Vanessa-Kate arrives. We'll see if it happens. =P

All in all, it's been a wonderful year. And I can't wait to see what the next one holds.

Flashback Friday.

Firstly, there is something that you may not know about me. I think it's time that you know:

I love tequila. Tequila does not love me. But I love it.

I'm also still the same person who likes to write about the joys of parenting, and gets mushy gushy about it. I rarely ever go out. But back in the day, I could hold my fair share.

I believe this picture is circa 2008. I'm the one in the hat. It took place at a little impromptu event titled "Tabatha's Crazy Drunken Luau". I made a guy cry for walking through my screen door that night. I still feel kind of badly about that.

Anyway, this flashback friday post is brought to you by the fact that I would do just about anything for a glass of wine right now. Wine is a cruel pregnancy craving.

June 2009.

This is me as far along as I am now when I was pregnant with Ian.

*sigh*

Now only if I still had that adorable stretch-mark free belly. =P

Flashback Friday.

I've always loved this video. This is Ian and Aiden playing in the park last August. I can't believe how much they have grown since then. But I also can't believe that this has been nearly a year ago. In my mind, it seems like yesterday.

This is just one of those memories that sticks vividly in your mind, for no particular reason. It. just. sticks.

I remember sitting in the grass and that it felt itchy on my thighs. I remember watching the boys run back and forth through the grass, thinking how I couldn't believe how well they were walking. I remember Ian's wispy hair blowing in the nice breeze. I remember how hurt Ian was that Aiden was too busy playing to let him give him a big hug, but how kept trying and trying and trying, no matter how many times he knocked the both of them over in the process.

I remember thinking about how I'd like to take the boys to fazolis afterwards, and watch them chomp down on their favorite foods. I thought about how proud I was that they were eating real food like big boys. I remember thinking about Ian's upcoming first birthday. I remember thinking "boys will be boys" as they became fasinated with picking up big sticks they found on the ground. I remember being really thirsty. =)

*sigh*

I'll always remember this as one of my favorite days of their "babyhood". Before they were big. When Ian still took a binky, and they still drank from bottles.

Looking back at things like this make time seem like such a strange concept.

Flashback Friday

One of our very first family photos. That is a 1 day old Beanlet right there.

It's amazing how much things have changed in these short (almost) 2 years.

In this photo:
Toby was working at a gas station, making just above minimum wage.
We were living with my parents.
We drove a 1993 Mercury Sable. (Seriously though, that was the worlds best crappy car)
I wasn't legal to drink.
We were brand new parents!
We had yet to celebrate our 1st anniversary.

But you know what, we were happy. Were things going exactly to plan? No. Certainly not. But, we did our best, and we were so so so very happy. My life has been so amazingly filled with love since the day Ian was born.

Things have changed so much since that day. If you would have asked me if I would have planned to have another child by now, I never would have said yes. But with a lot of hard work, and a lot of grace from God, we have been able to make it to such a wonderful place in life. We all finally feel like we're exactly where we are supposed to be. And that feel ohsogood.

I never imagined that we would love being a family as much as we have. I knew that we would love and care for Ian, but I never knew just what the meant until we actually did it. We have both found that we love parenting. We love being Mom and Dad. And having Ian has done nothing but make our marriage stronger and more filled with love and respect.

I'm so happy with life. My life. Our lives.

Flashback Friday.

This is Ian just over one month old. These were taken in late September of 2009.

I can't believe how much he has grown since then. I remember this night very vividly. It was one of the first nights that we spent the entire evening alone together. Toby was working, everyone was gone and it was just me and Squeaker.

I was so happy that he would finally fit in his airplane outfit, because it was one of my favorite outfits that I got at my baby shower. It was 0-3 months from Dwell Studio for Target. Tonight, I am hanging it up, tagging it, and putting it in a consignment sale. It breaks my heart. But I'm trying not to hold on to everything. I have about a half of a storage bin filled with tiny little Ian clothes that I can't bring myself to get rid of. I went through them this week, to see if anything could be saved for Vanessa-Kate, and I just felt sad.

Don't get me wrong, I am so very glad to be having another baby. I can't wait to be a family of four. Mommy, Daddy, Big Brother, and Little Sister. But, looking through those clothes, I wasn't longing to hold my new baby, rather, longing to hold Ian as a tiny baby again. Longing to take a step back. Longing to give him a bath in the infant tub, cover him in lavender lotion, and swaddle him in his little green swaddling blankets. I wanted to go back to my parents house (where we were living when Ian was tiny) and take him up in my bedroom and snuggle him. I missed his tiny little everything.

But, at the same time, I love who he is today. He has so much personality. And I actually feel like hes becoming a Mommys Boy, for once. He wants me to hold him, he wants me to cuddle him and to kiss him. He's a big boy. He's my big boy.

I still have my moments though. The moments where I wish if I held him realllly tight, he might just be tiny again. Just for a moment. That would be alright by me.

Yes, this was actually me at one point. I believe this was...2004? This was just a couple of months before I met my husband. How unbelievable is that?!

Flashback Friday.

This is me at the same point in my pregnancy with Ian that I am currently at with Vanessa-Kate. I suppose this would have been in April of 2009. And yes, I am sitting a jumbo sized cherry icee on my belly. That's how I roll.

Flashback Friday!

This photo was taken on January 15th 2010, so nearly one year ago.

Ian turned 5 months old that day, and I remember that he was a snuggle bug all day long. I took this picture because it was also the very first day that he learned to hold his own bottle! I couldn't believe how fast he was growing up! If only I knew how big he would be in a year!!
